Graduate Programme
We have a fantastic 12 week summer clerk programme and are dedicated to providing our law clerks with an understanding of a wide range of legal work. The first six weeks involves a comprehensive training programme where unlike any other law firm, you have an opportunity to sit with several authors, find out what their specialist area is all about and how to tackle particular tasks. During this time you receive training on everything from using Outlook to time recording, completing a client interview and drafting documents. With this training you develop a good understanding of a wide range of legal work and become well equipped to complete tasks as they are given to you.
We pride ourselves on providing our law clerks with such a comprehensive programme that ensures a great base for developing a successful career.
My time at McCaw Lewis has been invaluable. I have learnt exactly what it means to work in a law firm as a solicitor and can now say with confidence that I want to practice in the commercial/property area of law. Having such a well organised training programme has made all the difference and has meant I have been exposed to a variety of legal work. In my time here I have: completed several sale and purchase settlements, been involved in client interviews, attended a mediation, helped with refinances, drafted wills, trust documents, powers of attorney and more. The mentoring from all staff around the firm has been fantastic, people are always happy to take the time to provide explanations and ensure you have a full understanding of the task at hand. McCaw Lewis provides a comprehensive summer clerk programme which I would recommend to any law student looking to round off their legal education with a dose of reality. This programme is rigorous and provides the perfect insight into the inner workings of a law firm. The skills I gained are invaluable and the experience has provided a much-needed practical dimension to my legal education. The nature of the programme is such that you cannot help but get immersed in the firm’s culture.
