Kaupapa Māori Moot Competition Final 2021

A great evening at the Kaupapa Māori Moot Competition Final last Friday at Te Piringa, Faculty of Law, organised by Te Whakahipapo (the Waikato Māori Law Student’s Assn). Congratulations to Te Uranga Royal who took out both the Best Overall Mooter award and the McCaw Lewis Award for the Best Mooter in Te Reo Māori. Te Uranga will go on to represent Te Whakahiapo at the National Kaupapa Māori Moot, held in July at Hui-ā-Tau 2021 (the annual conference of Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa) in Ōtautahi.

Melissa Noanoa received the award for Most Promising Mooter.

Former McCaw Lewis staff Glenn Tootill and Judge Coxhead were joined by Linda Te Aho on the judging panel. Their feedback after the moot was overwhelmingly positive.

McCaw Lewis is very proud to sponsor this kaupapa. It is inspiring to see these impressive students tackling the subject matter with skill and passion. McCaw Lewis Law Clerk Cree Ratapu and Senior Associate Kylee Katipo presented the awards to the winners who were surrounded by friends and whānau.
